Choisya 'Ternata', has a mass of small white flowers that are acompanied by a beautifully sweet scent from spring through to the end of summer. It isnt unknown that this Choisya can have a second showing as late as autumn! The foliage is bright and a nice contrast, and notably is also aromatic when crushed to release the scent. David Austin 'Mortimer Sackler' is a delicately beautiful, rather unusual climber, bearing pretty pointed buds which open to medium-sized, loosely double, light pink flowers. Produced in large open sprays over a very long season, the flowers are held on slender dark stems and gradually open to expose golden stamens. There is a light-medium Old Rose scent with hints of fruit. It is healthy and almost thornless with relatively small, dark green leaves. The right to name this rose was auctioned on behalf of The National Trust. Pale peachy pink buds gradually open to form neatly cupped, cream rosettes. Each bloom has a perfect ring of waxy petals enclosing numerous smaller petals. Eventually the petals turn back to form a large, domed flower. It forms a vigorous, rounded, almost thornless shrub, its blooms nodding attractively on the branch. Loropetalum Chinese 'Fire Dance' is a specimen that creates a brilliant mound of evergreen purple foliage. In late winter to mid spring, this is accompanied by the most vibrant and unusual bloom in the form of pink witch hazel-like flower. Mahonia 'Charity' is an excellent winter flowering shrub has imposing whorls of great leaves composed of many long paired leaflets. Lemon-yellow flowers come from around November through to January and have a light fragrance. It will reach 3m (10ft) or more in height and, in a mature specimen, as much in width. Osmanthus x burkwoodii is a useful plant that grows slowly and is often used for hedging. It has small oval leaves that are smooth, dark-green and shiny.
