This is grown primarily for its attractive flowers which are held on copper-coloured stems above the foliage. They are coloured a warm pink with paler areas on some petals and a dark heart. This is spring flowering but may manage a repeat show during summer. The leaves are green and fleshy, quite long with rounded ends. This makes a lush plant when well grown with quite long green leaves having impressed main veins and a pale yellow midrib. The foliage turns red in winter. In addition to its foliage interest it delights with its vibrant pink flowers that are carried in bright coral-coloured calyces and form small tight clusters that delight the eye. Ceanothus 'Lemon & Lime' is an exciting new variety of evergreen California Lilac - an upright shrub with bright gold and green variegated foliage - hence the name Lemon & Lime. Helenium 'Short N Sassy' is a compact variety has pretty rather chunky flowers. These have a broad raised rich brown centre and quite short orange and yellow petals around it. The leaves are mid green and the plant has an upright growth habit. This is August and early autumn flowering. Plant in moisture retentive soil in full sun. Ilex Aquifolium 'Argentea Marginata' (sometimes known as the 'silver margined holly') is a handsome holly with dark-green, moderately broad, oval leaves, regularly spined and neatly margined with creamy-white. It is a female holly and very free fruiting. Holly leaves are not necessarily spiny throughout the plant's height. The lower leaves, to a height of 2-3m (7-10ft) are well armed, but above this height they may have few or no spines. Thus, above the height that they are at risk from being grazed, they lose their defensive prickles. Ilex aquifolium 'Ingramii' is a superb, premium Holly that produces a desne prickly barrier in an unusual blend of stunning pink young shoots and pale green-white. Holly provides dense cover and good nesting opportunities for birds, and may be used by hedgehogs and small mammals for hibernation. This variety is popular as an ornamental shrub as it has an alternative foliage colour. A great hardy variety and an unusual choice that is well worth a try this year. Mature height is 150cm after 10 years. Lavandula 'Willow Vale' is a pleasing form of lavender with long wavy petals that are coloured a soft mauve purple and which have a darker vein of colour at their centre. This comes into flower during May and, once the main flush is over, will continue to produce a few flowers for the remainder of the summer. The plant has grey-green foliage that is strongly aromatic. It is a compact upright plant and the flowers are held on long stems. A compact, spreading and picturesque small shrub. This makes a dense clump of foliage. The neat leaves may be completely yellow, or may be bright green with a yellow edge. The young growth, at the branch tips, is copper-tinted and this colour adds definition and interest. There are small sweet-scented flowers in June, borne with more freedom than is usual for the shining honeysuckle. Purple fruits follow. The shrub is primarily grown for its foliage appeal. It is often placed near the front of a shrub border to provide colour and interest. It is also grown in a container, clipped to contain its spreading habit if necessary. Pyracantha 'Orange Glow' is densely branched. It is tolerant of poor conditions and can be grown against a north or east-facing wall and still produce flowers and fruit. It can also be grown as a specimen and will make a striking, though wayward branched shrub. There are white flowers in June and orange-red fruits in autumn that will probably last till Christmas; birds permitting. Enjoys most garden situations in well-drained soil. Scabious 'Butterfly Blue Beauty' is a large flowered scabious has rather dense looking, pretty lavender blue flowers. These have a very large centre, making them less ethereal than some. It bears the flowers on spindly stalks for a long period during mid to late summer Has neat, compact foliage. Attractive to butterflies and makes an excellent cut flower. Hardy and perennial. This compact, easy-going plant flowers freely with pincushion heads of pink, slightly lilac-hued flowers during summer. The flower heads are rounded and full of small individual flowers. The larger blooms are round the edges and have large petals that appear somewhat wedge-shaped. The broad heart is filled with tiny, like-coloured flowers intermixed with stamens. This has a simple effect and is pleasing grown in any informal setting or with plants that wave and move such as Gaura forms.

Zesty green leaves with claret red edges form a fabulous, dense cushion of fleshy, rounded foliage. In late summer, panicles of raspberry pink, star-shaped blooms will virtually smother the plant, attracting attention from bees and butterflies. Sedum 'Sunsparkler Lime Zinger' makes a showy addition to alpine gardens and containers. A recent introduction from American breeding, this hardy perennial Stonecrop makes fabulous groundcover. Like all Sedum, it thrives in dry conditions and shows excellent drought tolerance.
