Cornus 'Eddie's White Wonder' dogwood is generally considered a compact growing dogwood, but can be grown as either a shrub or a small tree. The floral show in may is rather spectacular, with a show of large cream/white flowers. Betula pendula 'Spider Alley' is an unusual, elegant birch with pretty twisted branches and a symmetrical narrow head. The peeling bark is predominantly silver with patches of pink and brown on the younger wood before becoming totally white with age. Heart shaped serrated leaves cover the tree in spring followed by small catkins. When autumn arrives, the foliage turns to a warm golden shade. Phoenix canariensis also known as the Canary Island Date Palm is a popular choice of palm for British gardens, although not considered particularly hardy but can withstand the UK winters if given some frost protection. Its comparatively slow growing but considered relatively quick for a palm and can eventually reach quite significant heights and a spread of nearly 5 meters under the right conditions. Malus 'Golden Hornet' is a small compact tree with an upright habit in its early years. Dark green, broadly oval leaves turn yellow in autumn. Large white flowers flushed pink followed by a large crop of bright yellow fruits maturing early in the autumn. Trachycarpus fortunei is an extremely popular palm for gardens in the UK due to its hardy nature and can survive in temperatures as low as 15°C! It's also evergreen, bringing a bit of the tropics to gardens in the UK all year round. Over time, the leaves are shed and the hairy fibrous tunk becomes quite substantial. The foliage is atop this trunk and fans out in an impressive display of palm leaves. It can achieve heights exceeding 12 meters but is relatively slow growing, reaching this after at least 20 years. Liquidambar Styraciflua ‘Stared’ is a large tree with a narrow pyramidal crown, densely branching, even when mature, the grey bark has shallow grooves. Deeply cut, star-shaped leaves are glossy green in summer, transforming to vivid red and scarlet in autumn for a magnificent display. Insignificant purple-red flowers are followed by spiky fruit capsules for further interest. Many a bust of a roman emperor features the signature wreath around the head. Even the berries had significance where priestesses would chew the berries before handing our prophecies, and keeping berries under pillows was believed to result in dreams of future events The foliage is a dark green colour with a distinct aroma and can be trimmed to form a neat columnar or cone shaped topiary tree. Acer campestre, or Field Maple as it is commonly known is the only species of maple that is native to the UK. A medium sized tree which usually has and attractive and rounded canopy with leaves that are the typical maple shape, although slightly less angular than the usual acer shape. As a native tree, this will be resilient to the weather and makes a fantastic hedging plant, it is happy to grow in most sites although it does seem to prefer full or partial sun and slightly shallow soils. In summer this tree has fantastic bright green foliage which turns to an outstanding, butter-yellow during the Autumn. Alnus cordata Italian Alder is a brilliant tree for more moist soil conditions. It thrives in damp conditions so make it ideal for spots that other trees would normally rot in. Eucalyptus 'Azura' is compact form of the popular eucalyptus. It has the most wonderful rounded leaves that are almost blue in colour. It originates from Australia, is capable of reaching heights of 5m and considered relatively hardy. Its unique appearance has a certain exotic feel about it, making it a great plant for a more exotic or mediteranian themed area. It's not uncommon to see cuttings of Eucalyptus in flower arrangements, simply for this unique appearance. Cryptomeria Japonica 'Globosa Nana' is a dense conifer with a mounding habit that creates a rather rounded appearance. This half standard variety makes a fantstic ball shaped tree - a real eye catcher in the garden. Half Standard refers to how the round shrubs have been grafted onto a bare-branched trunk. Pinus Brepo (sometimes known as the 'Pierrick Begeon' or 'Lollipop' Tree) forms a lovely dense dome shape. It's a relatively slow growing dwarf pine that grows rather evenly in its neat dome shape. This half standard variety makes a fantastic specimen plant and a great focal point in the garden. This specimen is approximately 1.2m tall incl pot. Betula utilis 'Jacquemontii', also known as The Himalayan White Birch, is a popular distinctive form of the ‘white’ birch. The ascending branches form a spreading head. The coppery-brown bark on the young wood eventually peels to leave a distinctive white bark. The dark green serrated leaves turn golden-yellow in the autumn before leaf fall. A variety that's worthy of any garden for its year round interest! This particular specimen comes with several stems per pot.
