The Recipe to Hosting the Perfect BBQ
The summer nights may be drawing in, but that won’t stop us from still enjoying an evening barbecue in the garden! If you’re planning on making the most of the longer days and summer weather while we still can, then here are our top tips and a delicious recipe to impress your guests with at your BBQ!
Let’s start with the most important part of hosting a BBQ… the food! We have just the recipe from Weber which will guarantee to impress your guests. Experience the thrill of the grill and cook up a tasty Beer Can Chicken! Also known as ‘Chicken on a Throne’, this American barbecue favourite is full of smoky, succulent flavours.
It’s super easy to make but will make a big impression:
- Set up the smoker as per the user guide.
- Soak 2 cups of apple wood chips/chunks.
- Rub olive oil all over the chicken.
- Coat a whole chicken with a spice of your choice. (We have ‘Spicentice specially blended beer can chicken rub’ which compliments this recipe perfectly!)
- Clean your beer/lager can thoroughly underwater. Open your can and drink or pour away half of the liquid, adding some of your chosen spices into the can.
- Put the can into the Weber Original Poultry Roaster and place the chicken over the beer can. Place on the cooking grate and cook for 2-2.5 hours adding wood chips on to the hot coals.
- After 1.5 hours, open the smoker door and re-fuel if required and add extra wood chips.
- The chicken is cooked when the meat thermometer reaches 77°C in the thigh/breasts or the juices run clear. Once cooked, using two barbecue mitts remove the poultry roaster and put the chicken to one side to rest and cool for approx. 10 minutes. The beer can will be very hot, make sure you support the can as you lift and twist the chicken off (use a gloved hand or tongs to assist). The chicken will be very moist so you can either carve or just pull the chicken off the bones and place on a serving bowl.
*You can also use a charcoal barbecue for this recipe. Set up using the roasting method. Simply add soaked wood chips to the hot coals and roast for approximately 1.5 hours or when the meat thermometer reaches 77°C in the thigh/breast.
With Spicentice beer can chicken spices, you can add a whole lot of flavour and health to your recipe. What a showstopper!
This delicious recipe can be served with chips and wedges, corn on the cob, coleslaw & a crisp side salad. Enjoy!
Of course, you don’t need to go full out if you don’t want to but after the year we’ve had, it’s understandable if you do want to go that extra mile when you host your gatherings. Picture this: You’ve got your outdoor dining area, the chicken is on the grill, you’re sitting around the garden waiting for your meal, chatting with some drinks… there’s just one thing missing… the lights! Set the scene for the night with some garden lighting and/or party lights. Garden lighting is a simple, yet effective way to enhance and extend the evening on these late summer nights.
